As the festive season approaches, NORTH CHEAM Dedicated Ward Officers are reminding residents to take simple steps to reduce the risk of burglary. Offenders often take advantage of darker evenings, empty homes, and visible presents.
Please take a moment to review the following advice to help keep your home and neighbourhood safe.

๐ Home Security
Always lock doors and windows, even when you are at home or popping out briefly.
Use timer switches on lights and radios to make your property appear occupied.
Ensure burglar alarms are set correctly and in good working order.
Fit security lighting around entrances, driveways, and darker areas.
๐ Gifts & Valuables
Keep presents and valuables out of sight from windows.
Do not leave gifts unattended in vehicles.
Dispose of packaging discreetly and avoid leaving boxes outside.
Record serial numbers of valuable items and consider property marking.

Cancel deliveries such as milk or newspapers.
Ask a trusted neighbour to check on your property.
Avoid posting holiday plans on social media until after you return.

Keep keys out of sight and away from doors and windows.

Secure gates and maintain fences and hedges.
