At 1935 hours on Thursday 18/12/2025 a report was made to police that the public Menorah located at Muswell Hill Road, Haringey was damaged with all the lights being broken. This is being investigated as a racially aggravated criminal damage and the investigation is being led by detectives from North Area CID. You will continue to see an enhanced police presence at faith sides across Haringey and Enfield over the Hanukkah period. Below is the statement that we are issuing in response to this crime;
‘ Police are investigating a report of criminal damage in Muswell Hill Road, Haringey. The incident was reported to police at 19:35hrs on Thursday, 18 December, after light bulbs on a Menorah were found damaged. Police are treating this as religiously aggravated criminal damage. At this early state of the investigation, no arrests have been made. We understand this incident is likely to be deeply worrying for the community. Officers are working closely with the local community and the Synagogue as enquiries continue.
Superintendent Owen Renowden, the Met’s hate crime lead, said:
“This has been a tremendously difficult week for the Jewish community following the terror attack in Australia at the weekend, and I appreciate how these hate crime incidents will cause further hurt and distress. “We’re working closely with local partners including religious leaders and have put in place additional visible patrols. “We are treating these reports extremely seriously and will update further when we can. I encourage anyone with any information, to contact us and assist with our investigation.”
At present, it is unclear when the damage occurred. We ask anyone with information to contact police on 101 quoting CAD6542/18Dec.’
