Policing Operation - Barking Train Station |
||
|
A policing operation at Barking train station saw resources join forces to provide commuters reassurance on Thursday 18 December during peak times. The operation enabled a hi visibility led policing response focusing on enforcement and engagement jointly with Met Police, British Transport Police and City Police to target those intent on using the rail network to commit crime.
Officers also completed joint patrols with LBBD Council Enforcement Officers around the outskirts of Barking Train Station and Barking Town Centre – Ripple Road, Market Place, East Street, London Road with a stall to provide a static engagement point for crime prevention advice. Other areas were also visited including Vicarage Fields and car park, and a number of local businesses who have experienced crime and anti social behaviour.
During the course of the operation, 23 individuals were stopped and searched, which lead to 12 positive outcomes. (A positive outcome could range from issue of a Community Resolution, a Penalty Notice to an arrest). One individual was arrested for possession of cannabis and an offensive weapon. Two further individuals were identified as being wanted by the courts for failing to appear and were also arrested.
Superintendent Biju Premnath for Neighbourhood Policing said “This high visibility operation at Barking Station has resulted in a number of individuals being held to account for their actions, whether it is traveling whilst having illegal items in their possession or for being wanted by the courts. Commuters should be able to travel and work safely and without fear, while the rail network staff work in a safe environment. These results show effective collaboration by different sectors of policing and partners, with positive enforcement outcomes making the area that much safer. If you have concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour in your neighbourhood or at locations during your daily commute, please get in touch with your local team via our new platform Met Engage.
