Update Christmas Drink and Drug Campaign 2025. |
||
|
Good Afternoon: Over 130 arrests for drink and drug driving in December ❌ As part of our ongoing commitment to this year’s Christmas drink and drug drive campaign we have so far made 133 arrests. The campaign launched on Monday 01 December with us releasing a hard-hitting social media reel to try and make people think about the choices that they have after consuming alcohol. Since then, we have been doing all we can to raise awareness and have also stepped up our patrols in addition to routine patrols to catch those who are persistent at drink and drug driving. In the early hours of this morning, shortly after midnight (Monday 29 December 2025) we received a call from two members of the public in Tadcaster reporting that a van was “all over the place”. In less than five minutes our Specialist Operations officers were behind the vehicle but it made off from our officers at approximately 4MPH before we boxed it in. The driver, a man in his 60s was requested to do a breath test. The legal limit for alcohol in breath tests in the UK is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. In this case the man blew 151 at the roadside, almost five times the legal limit. He was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle whilst over the legal alcohol limit. In custody he blew 131 which is where he is currently. We are grateful to the members of the public who phoned 999 to report this to us. If you are concerned about the manner of driving from a vehicle which is travelling on a road then please do report this to us. If you believe it’s an emergency, then always call 999. If you’ve been out drinking there is no way to know how much you can drink to stay under the legal limit, since it can depend on your weight, age and metabolism. You may also still be affected by alcohol the next day and are likely to lose your license if you are over the legal limit. The consequences of drink or drug-driving could include: Killing or seriously injuring yourself or someone else; A minimum 12-month ban; An unlimited fine; A possible prison sentence; A criminal record, which could affect your current and future employment; An increase in your car insurance costs; Difficulty travelling to countries such as the USA. Whatever your plans for New Year, leave your keys at home and don’t be the reason that someone doesn’t make it back to their family. #howrugetting🏠 crash, arrested, dead or a taxi?
