Celebrate the New Year Safely

As we welcome the New Year, let’s make sure the celebrations are fun AND safe for everyone. Here are some important tips to protect yourself, your property, and your loved ones:

Burglary Prevention

·  Lock up before you head out – secure doors, windows, and gates.

·  Leave a light on or use timers so your home looks occupied.

·  Keep valuables out of sight from windows and doors.

Personal Safety

·  Plan your journey home – if you’re drinking, don’t drive. Use a taxi, rideshare, or public transport, or have a designated driver.

·  Avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas. Stay with friends or commute in a group.

·  Tell someone where you are and when you’re heading home.

·  If you or a friend feels unwell: seek help, seek support, seek safety.

·  If someone or a situation makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or pressured, trust your instincts. You have the right to make positive choices. Prioritise your wellbeing: 

Theft from Motor Vehicles

·  Remove valuables from your car – even small items can attract thieves.

·  Lock your vehicle and park in well-lit, busy areas.

·  Never leave keys or bags visible inside your car.

Noise Awareness

New Year celebrations often include fireworks and loud music. Please be mindful that this can cause distress to pets, young children, and vulnerable people.

·  Keep pets indoors and comfortable.

·  Check in on neighbours who may need extra support.

. Do not set off Fireworks off in the street! This is a criminal offence which can lead to you arrest!
