Local Priorities Dangerous driving / speeding Concern Update Safer Neighbourhood Proactive Stop

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding dangerous driving and speeding, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

Your local Safer Neighbourhood Team were conducting proactive mobile patrols around South Norwood Hill when they came across a vehicle which made an immediate change of direction upon seeing police. Officers followed the vehicle to Holmesdale road and at the junction of Holmesdale Close, officers saw a green Virgin internet box driven through and completely destroyed.

Officers continued driving and saw the same vehicle parked on Oliver Avenue. As officers approached the vehicle, the driver had left the vehicle ran towards STATION ROAD. Through the officers best efforts to chase the driver, where officers lost sight of him along the CARGREEN ROAD. Upon returning to the vehicle, officers found thousands of cigarette and tobacco products within the vehicle. It was also noted that the vehicle had substantial amount of damage to its front side. The vehicle was taken by our specialist team for a forensic investigation to be conducted.

If someone is driving a motor vehicle, they should always be doing so in a safe and considerate manner. Even momentary lapses in judgement can have life changing or devastating consequences for those in the vehicle or innocent bystanders.
