I wanted to share the latest speed monitoring results for our 20mph zone.

Hertfordshire County Council has provided us with data collected from navigation apps and other sources, and the highest recorded speed was 25.5mph. While this is slightly above the limit, the overall data shows most drivers are sticking to the rules, which is great news!

You might wonder why navigation apps are used for this data. These apps anonymously collect speed information from vehicles as they travel, giving a realistic picture of how people are driving day-to-day. This method is cost-effective, accurate, and helps identify trends without needing physical speed cameras or sensors everywhere.

We understand that vehicles can sometimes feel like they’re going faster than they really are—things like engine noise or size can make a big difference to perception.

We’ll continue working with the County Council to monitor speeds and keep our roads safe. Please remind friends, family, and visitors to check their speed and drive carefully.
