July 2025: A Year in Review |
Dear Resident Man imprisoned for injuring a woman Welcome to Day 7 of the 2025 Year in Review Series. I just want to take a moment to thank readers for their feedback on the messages so far as well as information provided on the goings-on in your communities. This information has been fed back to your local officers, and we will co-ordinate our patrols accordingly to act on this information. Today’s message focuses on a serious assault against a woman which happened in July 2025 in London Colney. In the early hours of the morning, Police received a report that a male had thrown a glass at a female on a licenced premises causing deep facial lacerations to the victim. The shards of glass subsequently hit another woman. The offender was swiftly arrested and remanded in Custody ahead of his hearing at St Albans Crown Court. On 10th October 2025, he pled guilty to a GBH with Intent (s18) and battery. The male was sentenced to over 4 years in prison and handed a Restraining Order to protect the victim from any future contact. Tackling Violence Against Woman and Girls (VAWG) remains a force priority for Hertfordshire Constabulary. VAWG is recognised as one of the most serious issues affecting public safety. In 2023, the Home Secretary included VAWG within strategic policing. The VAWG strategy has four key priorities: prevention, protection, pursuit of perpetrators and preparation within policing. We work with specialist partner agencies and communities to develop and improve our response to VAWG. We also support the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence campaign, alongside other organisations across the county. Locally, we regularly run an Operation called Project Vigilant, which aims to identify predatory behaviour towards women and girls during the night-time economy. We don’t want the heightened Police presence in our town and city centres to raise alarm, but rather give the public reassurance that we are around to challenge unacceptable behaviour and prevent offences from occurring. I’m sure this topic will strike a chord with some readers. I am therefore asking if you have any comments, concerns, or questions relating to how you want your local officers to be tackling VAWG-related incidents, please contact us directly by replying to this message. Are there any places in the St Albans District which make you feel unsafe? Are you part of any female-only groups who would like a visit from their local Police? Do you have any concerns about National or Local News within the scope of VAWG (eg. Spiking, Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse)? Please do let us know and we will be able to support you.
I've included a Survey below if you feel this is relevant to you. Your opinions and feedback really do help shape our priorities so please share your thoughts with us.
Thank you very much for reading along! These messages will resume on Monday 12th January. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. All the best Fiona | ||
