A man who stole ready meals from an elderly man in Newmarket has been given a prison sentence and ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
Reported on 2 February last year, Michael Majewski, 36, previously of Thompson Road, Griston, in Norfolk, admitted to stealing the food, worth around £70, from a freezer in a communal area where the victim lived in the town.
The food had been provided for by the daughter of the victim who was aged in his 80s.
Appearing at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday 5 January, Majewski pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced to seven days in prison.
This will be served concurrently as Majewski is currently in prison serving a seven-year sentence for aggravated burglary, attempted burglary and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, having been sentenced in April last year in relation to offences that took place in February 2025.
PC Goreham said: “Majewski’s offending and existing sentence shows he cares little for the law or for other’s property, but to steal the meals of an elderly man really is deplorable. I’m pleased justice has been served and the victim and his family were able to find out who was responsible.”
