Recruitment event for volunteer police officers being held at police HQ |

|
Aspiring volunteer police offices will have the opportunity to find out more about the role of a special constable at a recruitment event later this month. The event, held at West Mercia Police headquarters on Wednesday 28 January, will see current serving special constables share insights into the role and answer any questions. Special constables volunteer their time to be a police officer. A fully trained special constable has full police powers, wears a police uniform, and works alongside regular officers and police staff. There are currently 90 special constables serving across the three counties covered by West Mercia Police; and the force is now recruiting for more like-minded people to join them. Special constables play a vital role in keeping communities safe and last month West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion announced he is working with local authorities across the force area to see a 25% reduction in council tax for the volunteer police officers. The upcoming event, which is being held at police headquarters at Hindlip Park, will provide insights into what it takes to become a special constable and will be an opportunity for questions about the role to be answered. The video below is a collation of real bodyworn footage from West Mercia Police Special Constables and highlights just how important the role can be.
