Vehicle crime can happen in seconds — but a few simple habits can make your vehicle (and your tools) a much harder target. |
✅ Quick wins for all vehicles • Lock it every time (even if you’re only away for a moment). If your mirrors fold when locked, check they’ve folded. • Close windows and sunroof to prevent thieves “fishing” items out. • Remove valuables or hide them properly (bags, phones, coins, medication, sunglasses). • Remove “clues” like sat nav mounts, cables, and suction marks. • Park smart: choose well-lit, busy areas where possible. • Take documents with you (don’t leave vehicle paperwork in the car). • Secure number plates with tamper-resistant screws.
🔧 Tools in vans – reduce the risk of tool theft • Best option: remove tools overnight whenever you can. • If you must leave tools inside: – Mark tools clearly (name/company + postcode) to make resale harder. – Use a lockable internal cabinet inside the van. – Take photos and note serial numbers. – Consider in-vehicle recording options designed to capture activity inside vehicles.
