Zig Zags |
||
|
While patrolling Henley-in-Arden at school kick out time this week, we couldn’t help but notice a car left parked up on the zig zag lines outside Henley Primary School. While the police do not deal with double yellow lines, we can deal with zig zags, as the owner of this car will soon find out through their post!
It is an offence for a motor vehicle to fail to comply with Zig Zag road markings in the vicinity of a school. This is contrary to section 36(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988, the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 and Schedule 2 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 (if you really want to know). This offence carries a fine of £50 each time.
Like many schools in the region, parking can be difficult, but zig zags are present for an important reason. By keeping the pavements clear we all help keep young children safe by clearing possible obstructions to our view wh ilst driving.
We try to use a lot of discretion when considering whether to prosecute drivers, but the traffic laws are there to keep everyone safe. Please do your part by keeping the zig zag lines outside of our local schools clear.
