Theft from Motor Vehicle- Brookfield retail park, Cheshunt.

Dear Resident

On Saturday 17th January 2025 a theft from a vehicle occurred in Brookfield retail car park, Cheshunt.

The means of this theft is, Victims vehicle was parked in the car park and the victim was returning her trolley. Whilst returning the trolley, a male has asked the victim for direction on how to exit the car park. Whilst giving directions, somebody else has opened the victims car door, where victims bag was, and has taken both victims purse and phone from it.

Victim did not see the offender take the items but believes the male asking for directions was a distraction.

Offenders have tried to spend money with the victims cards.

The description of the offender we have is a tall male, late 40's, wearing glasses and smartly dressed.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers and steering wheel locks.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
