Crime prevention advice - Please consider purchasing a steering wheel lock for your vehicle. This will decrease the chances of your vehicle being targeted by offenders. Also remember to double check that your vehicle is locked, before leaving it unattended. Installing an immobiliser and covert tracking device will also increase the chance of getting your vehicle back should it be stolen. Visit the following link for further advice to keep your vehicle secure: Preventing car and vehicle theft | Crime Prevention | West Midlands Police - Consider purchasing a decent lock for your pushbike to prevent it being stolen. Visit the following link for further advice to keep your bicycle secure: Protect your bike from theft | West Midlands Police - Consider installing anti-snap locks to all external windows and doors on your home. This will make it more difficult for potential burglars to gain access to your home. Installing a monitored burglar alarm is also a great deterrent. Try to make the front and rear of your property as well-lit as possible by installing motion activated lighting. Visit the following link for further advice to keep your property secure: Keep burglars out of your property | West Midlands Police - CCTV is a great deterrent for offenders. This can also be crucial in linking criminals to multiple crimes.
Keeping your keyless entry vehicle secure Vehicles today are by and large more difficult to steal than ever, unless the thief can access your key or fob to clone them. Keep your keys safe, out of view when at home, and away from your front door. It’s not uncommon for car keys to be stolen from inside your home by thieves fishing for them with a stick and hook through the letterbox. If you're selling your car and you meet up with a potential buyer, do not allow the keys out of your sight. Your keys may be cloned by thieves and used later to steal your vehicle. Keyless entry Cars with keyless entry unlock automatically when the key comes within a short distance of the car. This can be from inside a pocket or bag. If you have to push a button on your car key to open your car, you don't have keyless entry. Keyless car theft or 'relay theft' is when a device is used to fool the car into thinking the key is close by. This unlocks the car and starts the ignition. Thieves only need to be within a few metres of your car key to capture the signal, even if it’s inside your home. This means that even if your car and home are secure, thieves can still unlock, start and steal your car.
How to protect your keyless entry car:
Additional physical security such as locks and immobilisers are still highly recommended.

Local news - Home Office funding is provided to West Midlands Police to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime in areas that are identified as having a high rate of these incidents. As a result, local officers have been conducting targeted patrols in these locations, with the aim of providing a visible presence, engaging with the local community and deterring this type of behaviour. When your local Officers are off duty, these patrols are conducted by policing teams from other areas, ensuring that there is continual coverage. Officers record the results of these patrols and the information is then returned to the home office. Your local officers have been hard at work conducting these patrols, so please feel welcome to have a chat when you see us.
Shirley officers have arrested and charged a prolific shoplifter who thought he could get away with it by hiding his identity behind a mask. Following his arrest, a search of his home address was conducted, and the distinctive mask was found, along with clothing he was wearing during each offence. The male has a court date at the beginning of February.
Shirley officers have arrested a male for an attempt theft of motor vehicle, after he jumped into a running car. The male has been bailed whilst the investigation is on-going.
Thank you to the residents that attended the community meeting this evening. It was great to see you there and thank you for your continued support.
