Earlier this month, a man was issued with a conditional caution in relation to a number of fires that occurred in Harveys Lane, Rush Green last year.
The service road, which runs off Dagenham Road opposite Barking and Dagenham College, was home to several fires, including a still-smouldering patch noticed by the team during patrols in early July 2025.
Subsequent enquiries, including the viewing of CCTV, highlighted an individual suspected of being involved, with an arrest being made a few weeks later (22nd July).
While it’s believed the fires were caused through reckless behaviour, rather than with any malicious intent, the potential for widespread damage, harm and possible death were considered.
The conditional caution means that any repeat offences will result in a more severe outcome, including a fine and/or prison. The suspect was also visited by the London Fire Brigade (LFB) this week for a fire safety and prevention talk, a requirement of the caution.
Harveys Lane continues to be patrolled regularly by the team as part of its commitment to tackle college-based anti-social behaviour (ASB) and offering reassurance to those using the cut-through to Parish Fields.
"A mention to Heath SNT's PC, Gabe, too who did a lot of the groundwork in putting this case together and who saw out its conclusion by issuing the conditional caution. And hopefully this provides reassurance to those living close to Harveys Lane, including residents of Gorseway and Parish Fields." -Rick |
