âšī¸ Two arrests as officers investigate Rhymney vehicle crime
đ Following a recent increase in reports of vehicle crime in Rhymney, officers from our Community Action Team were on patrol last night when, at around 10pm, they saw a car being driven in a suspicious manner on the mountain road between Rhymney and Tredegar.
đ The white Vauxhall Corsa was reportedly seen overtaking a car on an open bend at speed before leaving the area.
đŽ The team's enquiries led them to St Margaret's Avenue in Cefn Fforest, after a white car was found abandoned in the street. On approaching the car, officers reported finding a large disc cutter in the back seat as well as tool boxes in the boot.
đĨ Officers carried out CCTV and house-to-house checks in the area, before seeing two men approaching the vehicle shortly after.
đ On seeing the marked police car in the area and officers approaching, the men attempted to flee - but, our officers sprang into action and swiftly pursued and detained them.
đ They arrested a 23-year-old man from Cefn Fforest and an 18-year-old man from Abertillery on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, driving a motor vehicle otherwise in accordance with a licence, using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance and failing to stop.
đŽ The 18-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of resisting a constable in execution of duty.
âšī¸ Both men remain in police custody ahead of being interviewed. |
