Hi all, Here is a small break-down of the working structure, Local Policing Areas, Ranks and departments of West Midlands Police..
1. Local Policing Areas (LPAs) Each LPA is led by a Chief Superintendent and serves as the primary hub for community engagement and local crime prevention. (Chief Supt. Thomas Joyce) Coventry (Chief Supt. Paul Joyce) Dudley (Chief Supt. Gillian Davenport) Sandwell (Chief Supt. Kim Madill) (Chief Supt. Richard Harris) (Chief Supt. Phil Dolby) (Chief Supt. Anthony Tagg) 2. Core Policing Teams Within each LPA, four core teams handle daily frontline operations: Neighbourhood Policing: Officers, PCSOs, assigned to specific wards to tackle long-term community issues and anti-social behaviour. Response: 24/7 teams answering emergency (999) and non-emergency (101) calls. Local CID: Detectives investigating secondary or serious local crimes like burglary and fraud. Priority Crime Teams (PCT): Proactive units focused on local crime trends, such as vehicle crime and robbery. 3. Specialist Departments & Units WMP maintains high-level specialist capabilities that operate across the entire region: Operations: Includes Firearms, Dog Section, Drones, and the Operational Support Unit (OSU) for search and public order. Major Crime Unit: Investigates serious offences like homicide, kidnappings, and County Lines drug supply. Public Protection Unit (PPU): Dedicated to safeguarding vulnerable adults and children, and investigating sexual offences. Force Contact: The largest department, managing all 999/101 calls and dispatching resources. Road Policing: Formerly the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) collaboration; now includes dedicated regional teams for motorway and road safety. Intelligence: Regional units that collate and disseminate information on organised crime. 4. Ranks & Personnel Roles WMP utilizes standard UK policing ranks for warranted officers and specialized staff roles.
