These alerts typically focus on "distraction burglars" or "rogue traders" who claim to be from utility companies or offer unsolicited home repairs.
The "Bogus Official" Alert: "Before you answer the door to anybody make sure they are genuine... Stop and Lock: If somebody calls at your door first think 'Am I expecting anybody?'... Chain: If you do decide to open the door, make sure that you use a door bar or a chain... Check: Ask to see the caller's ID."
The "Rogue Trader" Warning: "NEVER EVER AGREE TO UNSOLICITED WORK ON YOUR DOORSTEP NO MATTER HOW ATTRACTIVE OR CHEAP THE PRICE... These criminals can be pushy and become aggressive. Do not engage with them. Close the door and ring 999 giving the police as much detail of the person and any vehicles."
The "Loose Tile" Scam: "Please be on your guard if anyone comes to your property saying you have tiles loose or missing on your roof... If you see these people please ring 101."

The "Mobile Provider" Scam: "We have received reports of individuals calling and claiming to be from mobile network providers such as Three, O2, Tesco Mobile... The scammer may state they are sending you a new SIM card and will attempt to obtain your personal details."
The "Phishing" Warning: "Fraudsters use phone calls to try and trick people into giving them valuable personal information. This is called 'phishing'... Never give out banking or personal details to anyone you're unsure about."
Key Advice
Doorstep Rule: If you aren't expecting a visitor, you are under no obligation to open the door.
Verification: Use a known number from a utility bill or directory to verify a caller; never use a number provided by the person at the door.
