Half-Term Crime Prevention Advice – Keeping Our Community Safe

Dear Resident

As we head into the half-term break, we know many families will be travelling, enjoying days out, or spending more time at home. Unfortunately, holiday periods can sometimes present opportunities for opportunistic crime.

Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to share a few simple steps to help keep you, your family and your property safe:

If you’re going away:

Ensure all doors and windows are locked before leaving.

Use timer switches on lights to make your home appear occupied.

Ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property and collect post.

Avoid advertising holidays on social media until you return.

Vehicle security:

Always lock your vehicle, even if leaving it for a short time.

Remove valuables from view (including bags, tools and electronic devices).

Consider parking in well-lit areas or on your driveway where possible.

Bikes & scooters:

Secure bikes with a good-quality lock to a fixed object.

Out and about:

Keep bags and phones secure in busy places.

Encourage children to be aware of road safety and personal safety when out with friends.

If you see anything suspicious, please report it via 101 or online. In an emergency, always call 999.
