We’ve received several recent reports of suspected counterfeit banknotes circulating in the Amber Valley area. Please take a moment to check your cash, especially when accepting money in shops, pubs, taxis, or private sales.

Quick tips on how to check your notes are genuine:

💷 Feel the paper & raised print
UK banknotes are printed on special polymer with raised print on areas such as “Bank of England.”

🔎 Check the see‑through window
Each note has a clear window with sharp, well‑defined edges and holographic images that change when tilted.

✨ Look for the holograms
Tilt the note and make sure the words or symbols in the hologram switch clearly between designs (e.g., “Five” and “Pounds”).

🧵 Examine the security thread
A metallic thread is embedded in the note — not printed on the surface.

🔦 Use a UV light if available
Real notes show bright, clear features under UV light, not glowing paper.

If you suspect a note may be counterfeit:
