TACKLIN ASB IN 2026
Hello Resident
In 2026, West Midlands Police (WMP) is implementing a multi-layered strategy to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB), shifting towards a data-driven "hotspot" model and increased community involvement.
1. 2026 ASB Strategy & Public Consultation In February 2026, WMP launched a major Action on ASB campaign to finalize their tactical plan for the 2026–2029 period. Public Survey: Residents are currently being asked to identify local "priority areas" for ASB. Feedback from this survey will directly dictate where resources are deployed for the remainder of 2026. ASB Working Group: A newly formed group ensures that resident voices are central to long-term prevention strategies.
2. Targeted "Hotspot" Enforcement The force is utilizing a £3.7 million Hotspot Action Fund (allocated for 2025–2026) to flood high-crime areas with visible patrols. High-Visibility Patrols: Increased foot and bicycle patrols are active in areas like and Wyrley Birch . Weekend Crackdowns: Extra patrols are deployed to shopping centres, such as , to manage large groups and nuisance behaviour. Specialist Operations:
3. Strategic Tools & Powers WMP is increasing its use of civil and criminal powers to curb persistent disruption: Community Protection Warnings (CPWs): Being issued more frequently to individuals identified as repeat ASB offenders. Immediate Justice: Aligning with the 2025 Crime and Policing Bill to ensure offenders perform community "reparations" swiftly after their offense. Youth Scrutiny Panels: Launching in early 2026 to review body-worn video from ASB-related stops, ensuring police powers are used fairly.
4. Prevention & Divergent Funding Early Intervention: Over £4.3 million is being funneled into the Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP) to provide youth activities (boxing, football, etc.) aimed at diverting young people from ASB. Safer Streets Mission: Part of a government commitment to add 289 new officers and 20 PCSOs to WMP by March 31, 2026, specifically for neighbourhood patrolling. Thank You | ||
