SMART ALERT – Crime Prevention & When to Call 999 or 101

Staffordshire Police is reminding residents to stay vigilant and to contact us using the correct number depending on the situation.

Use 999 in an emergency — this includes situations where:

There is immediate danger to life.

Someone is using or threatening violence.

A crime is happening right now, such as a burglary or theft in progress.

There’s a serious road traffic collision or serious risk of injury.

Use 101 to report non-emergency incidents, including:

A crime or incident that has already happened.

Damage to property, such as vandalism.

Stolen vehicles, minor collisions, or general enquiries.

Your report will be assessed by the same control room team who answer emergency calls.

Keep doors, windows and vehicles secure at all times.

Report suspicious activity as soon as possible—999 if happening now, 101 if after the event.

Look out for neighbours, especially the vulnerable.
