Theft from Motor Vehicle Tewin/Burnham Green

Dear Resident

Following on from my previous message this morning concerning a suspicious male in Orchard Road Tewin, there have now been multiple reports to Police about theft from vehicles in the Tewin/Burnham Green area.

A male dressed in black, wearing a balaclava and a back pack has entered many vehicles parked on driveways and on the road, conducted an untidy search and removed items including purses, cash and various bank cards etc.. He has then made off in an unknown direction. If you have any CCTV footage of this individual could you please contact Police on 101 so a link can be sent to you to forward it to us. This would allow us to plot a timeline and route that the offender has taken.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all residents to remove valuable items from your vehicle when parked as well as ensuring that it is locked and secure.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers and steering wheel locks.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
