Theft of number plates |
Hello. We wanted to bring to your attention a recent rise in theft of number plates on Underhill Ward. We have had a total of 3 in the past week. Below are a number of ways in which you can prevent your vehicle from being a victim of such crime:
1. Use Tamper‑Proof / Anti‑Theft Screws One of the simplest and most effective methods is to fit security or tamper‑resistant screws, which make plates difficult or impossible to remove quickly. 2. Strong Adhesive Pads or Bonding Using automotive‑grade adhesive pads instead of—or alongside—screws makes it harder for thieves to prise the plate off without breaking it. 3. Choose 3D Gel or 4D Style Plates Raised‑letter plates are harder to reuse once removed, making them less attractive to thieves. 4. Park in Well‑Lit, Busy or Secure Areas Where you park matters. Well‑lit or CCTV‑covered locations significantly reduce opportunities for tampering. 5. Buy Only Legal, Compliant Plates From Registered Sellers Criminals also clone plates, even without stealing yours — simply by copying registration numbers from public places or online.
6. Keep Your Vehicle Locked and Windows Closed Leaving a vehicle unlocked or windows open allows thieves to “fish” items — and potentially access plates.
