Roadside Traffic operation |
||
|
On 24 February 2026 PCSOs and Police Constables from Peckham and St. Giles Safer Neighbourhoods Teams, alongside colleagues from neighbouring wards and Special Constables conducted a proactive roadside traffic operation on Camberwell Church Street SE5. This operation was carried out in response to ongoing concerns regarding cycling on the pavements, cyclists failing to comply with red traffic lights and confiscation of illegal e-bikes, e-scooters and motorbikes raised by members of the community, During the operation fifteen cyclists failed to comply with a red traffic light offences and were issued with a £50 Fixed Penalty Notice. In addition to bicycles, officers also stopped e-bikes and e-scooters that they encountered to ensure they were road legal (including checks on power output, throttle restrictions, and pedal assist requirements). All e-bikes checked compliant; however, officers seized 3 e-bikes, 2 e-scooters and four motorbikes (one for dangerous driving and the other for no Insurance). It was a successful operation, as nine bikes were seized over the 2 -hour period. We understand the concerns raised by community and remain committed to addressing road safety issues within the ward. Proactive traffic operations and high-visibility patrols will continue to ensure the safety of all road users and pedestrians.
