I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. To make local residents aware we have had two burglaries over the last couple of weeks;
Avenue Road, Belmont, a burglary of a detached house. The thieves entered through a rear PVC door whereby they kicked in a lower panel. This happened on 13th February between 7:50am and 11:56pm.
Banstead Road South, Belmont, a burglary of a house whereby the thieves entered through the garage and stole the victims Nukeproof mountain bike. This happened on the 16th February at 6:00am, and the garage up and over door was damaged.
Please be aware that burglaries do happen on the ward, but they don't occur very often, so please don't be overly worried. Take reasonable steps to make your property safe by using a burglar alarm if you have one, and make sure your Ring-door bell or CCTV cameras are working (batteries charged). Lock your front and back doors before going to bed in the evening, and during the summer don't leave windows open. If you have any jewellery please consider keeping it in a banks safe deposit box (especially if it is of sentimental value), or fit a safe within your home in a discrete area. In most burglaries thieves are looking for cash and jewellery which they can either spend or easily move on.
Keep safe, regards your Belmont Safer Neighbourhood Team.
 While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
