West Midlands Police maintains a "zero-tolerance" policy regarding hate crime, defining it as any criminal offence perceived by the victim or any other person to be motivated by hostility or prejudice.
Sample Campaign & Awareness Messages
WMP and its partners use the following messaging to encourage reporting and community solidarity:
Core Stance: "Hate crime will NOT be tolerated. If you believe an offence has been committed online, visit report-it.org.uk".
Community Reassurance: "Everyone has a right to live their life without the fear of targeted abuse for who they are, either physically or verbally, and we will always seek to protect that right".
Solidarity: "💜 Don't Tolerate Hate – Stand Together Against Hate Crime 💜 Everyone deserves to live free from fear, intimidation, and abuse. Hate has no home here".
Call to Action: "If you see or experience hate, don't ignore it — report it. Together, we can make our communities safer, stronger, and more inclusive".
How to Report Hate Crime
Reports can be made directly to the police or through confidential third-party channels:
Third-Party Centres: Organisations like Stop Hate UK, True Vision, and CST (for antisemitism) allow you to report without talking directly to the police.
Local Hubs: Physical centres across the region, such as
offices or local family hubs in Coventry, act as safe reporting environments.
Recent Context & Challenges
In early 2026, the force faced significant scrutiny following whistleblower allegations of "institutional antisemitism" and claims that certain hate crimes were dismissed without investigation. In response, WMP leadership vowed to "work tirelessly to rebuild confidence" and reiterated that they "never tolerate any form of hate crime" regardless of the victim's background
Many thanks.
