We continue to receive reports of theft from motor vehicles across the borough. These crimes often happen within seconds, and offenders usually target cars that are unlocked, have items left on show, or use keyless entry systems.

Here are some simple steps you can take to protect your vehicle and belongings.

Quick Security Tips

Always lock your vehicle, even if you are stepping away for just a moment.

Remove all valuables – bags, laptops, tools, sunglasses, wallets, sat‑navs and loose change.

Clear door pockets and seat areas so nothing is visible.

Take tools out overnight wherever possible, especially from vans.

Wipe away sat‑nav marks from windscreens.

Keyless Vehicle Protection

Criminals sometimes use signal‑boosting devices to access keyless cars. Please consider:

Storing your key in a Faraday pouch to block the signal.

Keeping spare keys away from doors and windows.

Using a steering wheel lock as a visible deterrent.

Parking Safely

Park in a well‑lit, busy area or on a driveway where possible.

At home, consider CCTV or doorbell cameras if suitable.

When out, avoid leaving items in the boot, especially in car parks where offenders watch for owners hiding items before walking away.
