I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle crime (theft from or theft of), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. We have recently received concerns from members of the community regarding incidents of vehicle interference and theft from motor vehicles in the local area. Kent Police are encouraging everyone to remain vigilant and to take simple steps that can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of vehicle crime.
Safeguarding Your Vehicle – Practical Security Advice
To help protect your vehicle and personal belongings, please consider the following guidance:
Secure your vehicle
Always lock your vehicle, even if you’re only stepping away for a short moment. Ensure all windows, sunroofs and doors are fully closed before leaving it unattended.
Remove or hide valuables
Never leave items such as bags, wallets, tools, sat navs or electronic devices on display. Remove docking cradles and wipe away suction marks that may indicate valuables inside.
Park smart
When possible, park in a well‑lit area or a location covered by CCTV. If you have a driveway, consider adding motion‑activated lighting.
Use additional security
Steering wheel locks, immobilisers, and tracking devices can act as strong deterrents. Make sure your vehicle’s alarms and security systems are activated and functioning.
Be alert and report
If you see suspicious behaviour around vehicles, please report it immediately. In an emergency, always call 999. For non‑emergencies or to report information, call 101 or use the Kent Police online reporting service.
We appreciate the community’s support and vigilance. By taking small preventive steps and looking out for one another, we can reduce these incidents and help keep our neighbourhood safe. If you require further advice or would like crime prevention support, please get in touch.
I have also attached a document with guidance from Kent Police for you to look at in your own time.
