A man has been jailed and handed a five-year restraining order after he stalked a woman in Basingstoke. Carl Gonzalez, 36, of James Road, Basingstoke, drove behind the woman’s car and followed her, entered her home uninvited, turned up unannounced when she was shopping, and repeatedly and continuously loitered near her home between December 2025 and January 2026. He pleaded guilty to stalking without fear / alarm / distress and was jailed for 12 weeks at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Thursday 26 February. He is also now subject to a five-year restraining order. Police Staff Investigator Daniel Stockley, from Northern CID, said: “Our officers take reports of stalking incredibly seriously and we encourage anyone who has been affected by this type of behaviour to contact police. “Carl Gonzalez’s behaviour was completely unacceptable as no-one should have to live with such levels of harassment and unwanted contact. “I would like to thank the woman and the witnesses for coming forward and reporting this to police, and for their help throughout the investigation.” We understand that not everyone has the confidence to speak to police right away, but there are support services, independent of the police, who can help you if you’ve been a victim of stalking.
