I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. We have had a further two distraction burglaries reported with the same description of suspect and same method.
On the morning of 27th February, two adult white males attended a flat in Boundary House on Bethwin road. They told the elderly female resident that they were working on behalf of Southwark Council and were there to fix a water leak. One male kept the female busy in the kitchen, whilst the other searched the bedrooms. The residents adult son returned home and the suspect immediately left stating that they would return shortly. Nothing was stolen on this occasion but an obvious search had taken place in the bedrooms.
One the 5th March 2026, at 12:00 midday, two adult white males attended a flat in Grainger Court, Redcar street. They told the elderly male resident that they were contractors there to fix the water supply in the flat. One male kept the resident busy in the kitchen, whilst the other searched the other rooms, stealing £60 and two passports.
Please speak to neighbours, friends and family and make them aware of this method of distraction burglary, encourage them to not allow entry to anyone who cold calls at the address.
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
