Operation Snap is Greater Manchester Police’s dedicated system for the public to submit dashcam, cycle‑cam, and mobile footage of road traffic offences. The initiative supports GMP’s wider Vision Zero commitment to eliminate road deaths and serious injuries by 2040.
Purpose: Provides a secure online portal for submitting video or photographic evidence of driving offences. Helps GMP deal with incidents more efficiently while encouraging safer road behaviour.
How It Works: Members of the public upload footage showing possible offences. Specially trained staff assess each submission. Outcomes may include: Warning letters Fixed penalties or fines Prosecution Use of footage as intelligence for identifying hotspots or repeat offenders
Commonly Reported Offences: Close passes on cyclists Using mobile phones while driving No seatbelt Red‑light running Speeding Dangerous driving or careless driving Misusing hard shoulders Obstructive / dangerous parking
Overall Goal: Operation Snap empowers the public to support policing efforts, making it easier to take action against dangerous drivers and improve safety for all road users across Greater Manchester.
