We noticed that you have said Residential Burglaries were a top priority regarding issues in your local area. Here is how you can protect your and your home. Operation Defender is Lancashire Constabulary’s campaign designed to fight residential burglaries. Report suspicious activity on our website or call 101. If a crime is happening now, or there is a threat to life, dial 999. These tips can help you make your home less appealing to thieves, avoiding burglaries in summer. Hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and away from the letterbox (remember a device could be used to hook keys through the letterbox). Consider window safety locks to add extra security to an open window while you are in the property. Fit an intruder alarm in a visible place and test it frequently. Make sure the fences are secure, and side gates are locked to prevent access to the rear of the property. Not sure? Don’t open the door. Criminals make up stories to try to get into your home and distract your attention whilst they steal valuables or money. They may also keep you talking on your doorstep whilst an accomplice tries to gain access to your home via the back door. Staying safe in the darker months Light up, lock up: When you go out, leave a light on and remember to check your windows and doors are locked. Always lock your car and remove any valuables. Remember: when defrosting your car, never leave it unattended while your key is in the ignition. Consider fitting a security light at both the front and rear of the property.
