Residents, please be aware there have been two thefts of catalytic convertors recently in Swanley. The following advice is being offered -

We’re seeing an increase in catalytic converter thefts across the area. Criminals target these parts because they contain valuable metals such as platinum, palladium and rhodium.

🔧 Where is the catalytic converter located?

A catalytic converter is fitted to your exhaust system, usually underneath the vehicle between the engine and the silencer.
Thieves typically crawl underneath the car, cut it away, and are gone in minutes.

💡 What does a catalytic converter do?

It reduces harmful emissions from your vehicle by converting dangerous gases into safer ones.
Without it, your car will be loud, unsafe to drive, and expensive to repair.

✔️ How to Reduce the Risk of Theft

📍 Park Smart

Park in well‑lit, busy areas

Use CCTV‑covered car parks or driveways where possible

When at home, park close to walls, fences, or other vehicles to block access underneath

🔒 Make Your Vehicle Less Appealing

Consider aftermarket security marking kits

Ask your garage about catalytic converter locks or guards

If you own a high‑risk vehicle (e.g., hybrids, SUVs), be especially cautious

👀 Stay Alert

Report anyone working underneath a vehicle in a public place

If you hear sudden loud sawing sounds, it may be a theft in progress
