The family of a man who died following a collision in Chertsey last month have paid tribute to him. Officers were called to Longcross Road at 6am on Tuesday, 13 January following reports of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle at the junction of Accommodation Road outside the Old School Café. The rider of the motorcycle sadly died at the scene. He has now been named as Scott Davies, 32, from Egham. In a statement issued today, his family said: “Scott was a caring son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to so many. “He was a cheeky chappy who always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. “Growing up he enjoyed rugby, but darts was always his thing. He played county level when he was younger competing against some very recognisable names, and he carried on as an adult. “But family was always the most important thing to Scott. “He would do anything for anyone and always put others first. That’s just the way he was. He was a very loyal lad. “Scott was the middle child of three and would always be on the lookout for his older brother and younger sister. That caring trait continued with their children. Scott used to speak to his three-year old nephew all the time. He still phones Scott every day. “The same goes for his friends. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. “We will all treasure every minute spent with Scott. And if anyone asks what will we miss about him? The simple answer, everything.” Our investigation into this collision is ongoing. A 35-year-old man from Chertsey has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention in connection to this collision. He remains on police bail.
Over the last week Runnymede Officers have been busy conducting patrols around Egham High Street. They have arrested and charged seven suspects for theft from shops. Although many people believe shoplifting is a victimless crime, it is not, and it has an impact on every member of the public. Shoplifting contributes for a higher cost to the public in product price, high risk of anti-social behaviour, and has a direct link to drugs and other thefts. Officers are continuing to work closely with the shops on the High Street to combat shoplifting.
Following several reports of altercations following a recent football match between Chertsey Town FC and Basingstoke FC, a dispersal order was authorised across Chertsey. Inspector Chris Pike said: “This dispersal order is intended to ensure the safety of residents and visitors to Chertsey during the evening and overnight. “A dispersal order gives officers the power to order a group of two or more people to leave the area if they are committing, or are likely to commit, a criminal offence, and there will be additional patrols in the area while the dispersal order is active.”
Two more people have been arrested in connection to a serious assault in Staines-upon-Thames on Sunday evening. Officers were called to Staines High Street at around 7.36pm on Sunday, 8 March, following reports of a stabbing at the location. A teenage boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains at this time. Four people have now been arrested in connection with this incident. Two 16-year-old boys and an 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A 15-year-old girl has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. The 15-year-old girl has been released on bail while the others remain in police custody as our enquiries continue.
A successful operation led by Surrey Police to bring down a prolific shoplifting organised crime group was featured in a Channel 5 documentary this week. The criminals were responsible for over 100 crimes targeting large supermarkets across the country focused on stealing razors, alcohol, fragrances, beauty and electrical goods, totalling around £200,000. Eleven offences were committed in Surrey and, following a complex investigation, working in partnership with Tesco and wading through hours of CCTV footage, three suspects were convicted of 120 offences across the country. Elmbridge Borough Inspector Chris Thoday said: “Since January 2024, we have worked with Tesco to tackle four organised crime groups responsible for losses of over £2.5 million across their UK stores, and we have achieved combined custodial sentences exceeding 23 years for three of these offences in court.”
Back in January, we introduced you to our new Neighbourhood Enforcement Team (NET), a team dedicated to boosting enforcement, supporting our Safer Neighbourhood and Response officers, as well as providing a strong presence throughout our communities. Over the last three months, the team of three sergeants and 21 officers have been out in your boroughs, arresting just under 100 suspects, and completing more than 180 hotspot patrols.
