Dear Resident
A safety operation was carried out at West Herts College in #HemelHempstead this week to help educate young people on the dangers of carrying knives. Officers from the neighbourhood team engaged with students, educating them on what we’re doing to tackle knife crime. Students also walked through knife detector arches as they entered the college – and, thankfully, no knives were discovered. We’d like to thank West Herts College for their continued support with these operations. While knife crime remains low in Hertfordshire, in comparison to other parts of the country, we are committed to doing everything we can to tackle serious violence by working closely with our partner agencies and other organisations. We run activities throughout the year to reduce knife related crime as part of Sceptre, the national knife crime reduction campaign. Our officers undertake a range of activities including targeted operations, engagement and education to reassure young people they are safer not carrying knives. The county also hosted the Knife Angel throughout October last year. All incidents involving a knife have far-reaching consequences for those involved; not only the perpetrator and the victim, but their families and friends too. Fearless is a safe online space where young people can share information about crime 100% anonymously, if they don’t feel comfortable speaking directly to police. They can also access non-judgmental information and advice on a range of crime types.
