Security advice |

There have been a number of burglaries reported in the Porthill and Copthorne area of Shrewsbury. Unknown offenders are targeting sheds and outbuildings where they have taken the hinges off and stolen bicycles. People don't often secure their shed in the same way they do their homes. People end up using flimsy lock or padlock to protect the contents. Burglars know sheds are a weak point when it comes to security and often see them as easy targets. SECURITY PREVENTION Use heavy duty bolts and locking hasps that conceal screws, preventing thieves from simply unscrewing the hinges. Use closed shackle padlocks that are difficult to cut with bolt cutters. Place the shed in a visible area, with the door facing your house and not too close to a perimeter wall or gate. keep it well lit using dusk till dawn lighting and maintain the structure (eg, repairing rotten wood) to prevent easy break-ins | ||
