Dear Residents, We would like to make you aware of a scam known as the Wing Mirror Scam. Offenders approach drivers claiming their vehicle has hit and damaged a wing mirror. They often show a mirror that was already broken and insist on cash payment on the spot. What to look out for: - Someone claiming you hit their mirror when you didn’t notice any collision
- A mirror that appears old or previously damaged
- Pressure to pay cash immediately
- Refusal to exchange proper insurance details
What to do: - Stay calm and do not hand over cash
- Offer to exchange insurance details only
- Take photos of both vehicles and the alleged damage
- Call 999 if you feel threatened
- For non‑emergencies, report via 101 or https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/
General advice: - Keep car doors locked when stationary
- Be cautious when approached by strangers
- Trust your instincts
