Appeal made following public order incident at Fleet supermarket |
||
|
We are appealing for witnesses following a public order incident at the Sainsbury’s supermarket in Fleet.
Police were called at around 8.49pm on Tuesday 17 March to a report that a man was running in Fleet Road, near the junction with Branksomewood Road, asking people to fight.
Shortly afterwards, we received a call from security staff at the Sainsbury’s store.
It was reported that security had confronted a male they had suspected of shoplifting. It was then reported that the male threatened the staff with a broken bottle neck.
No serious injuries were reported.
Officers attended the store in Fleet Road and made an arrest.
A 16-year-old boy from Crondall was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, theft from a shop, criminal damage and common assault.
He has been released from custody on police bail with conditions, pending further enquiries.
Our investigation is ongoing.
We know a number of people will have been in the area of the store that evening.
We would like anyone who saw either incident to report information by calling 101 and quoting the crime reference number 44260127994.
