The law around off-road bikes:Riding any motorbike on public land, parks, pavements or footpaths is illegal and dangerous. Riding in parks, nature reserves and other open spaces also poses a danger to wildlife, and members of the public who are trying to safely enjoy rural areas. Often, off-road bikes and their riders will also not meet the legal requirements of owning a motor vehicle and therefore are unable to ride legally on public roads. This means that if the bike is ridden to rural locations, they are again breaking the law. You can find out more about the legal requirements on the page: *link to bikes and the law page*. In order to ride an off-road bike legally, you need to ride it on private land, with the landowner’s permission. The Auto Cycle Union can advise on specialist sites in your area where it is legal to ride off-road bikes, as well as any local competitions taking place. Visit their website at www.acu.org.uk for details.
We continue to recieve and action reports of off-road bikes being used around Shipley Country Park and continue to patrol the area, and respond when necessary to report of off-road bike usage. Not only can this end with a fatal accident, but puts other people at risk.
Please ensure anyone using a motorbike understand the dangerous consequences and criminal consequences of engaging with this behaviour. | ||
