As you will no doubt be aware, the price of both fuel and heating oil has increased recently. In an effort to try to combat the thefts of heating oil, the following points may assist you in preventing yourself from becoming a victim of theft. Be aware of your oil levels and check frequently. If you have a plastic tank, consider erecting fencing around the tank with one end hinged and locked for filling purposes. The fencing should be fixed to solid posts and should be set off the tank approx. 12 inches on all sides. The same should be fixed to the top as well.Fit your oil tank with a padlock or lockable filler cap.Fit an electronic gauge, which can activate an alarm when the oil level drops.Fit security lights near to the oil tank location or if you already have outside security lighting, then please ensure that the system works and that the light sensors have been adjusted correctly to detect movement.Fit CCTV cameras.Report it If a crime is happening now call 999 - if you are unsure, we’d rather hear about it and decide if a theft is occurring.If the crime has already happened then you can report it to us online or by contacting us on 101. |
