Hello everyone, This is your local police team with a quick safety update and some simple steps to help keep you and your belongings safe when you’re out and about.
🌟 Why we’re sharing this todayWe’ve had recent reports of bag and phone snatches in busy areas, especially near transport hubs, shopping streets and parks. These incidents often happen quickly and can be very upsetting. Our aim is to help prevent further offences and keep our community feeling confident and safe.
🔒 How to Reduce the Risk of Snatch TheftThese small changes can make a big difference: 1. Keep your phone and valuables out of sightAvoid using your phone while walking, especially near the road.If you need to check it, step into a shop or stand with your back against a wall so you can see what’s happening around you.2. Hold bags securelyWear cross‑body bags with the strap across your chest.Keep zips closed and bags positioned in front of you.Backpacks should be zipped up and kept in sight indoors or in crowded areas.3. Be aware around mopeds and bikesMany snatches happen from riders passing quickly from behind. When waiting at crossings, stand further from the curb.If you hear a fast-moving moped, keep your phone and valuables close.4. Look out for each otherIf you’re with friends or family, stay alert for anyone acting suspiciously near them.Encourage young people and elderly residents to keep valuables hidden and use bags safely.
