Help keep your loved ones safe |

Dear Resident, One Cambridge resident was at home on a Sunday earlier this month when she heard a knock on her door. She was met by an elderly woman she didn’t recognise and something wasn’t right – she was only wearing one slipper and appeared confused. A Cinderella Story this was not. The woman had no handbag or ID with her, and struggled to recall her last name. She claimed she lived at a few houses on the same road, and the resident took time out of her day to take her to them – but this was sadly not the case. We’re publicly saying thank you to the kindhearted resident, who then took the vulnerable older woman into her home to keep her safe and out of the cold.
She gave her tea and biscuits (a winning combo) while on the phone to us. Checks revealed the woman’s identity and address and we arrived soon after, where we took the woman in her 80s home and reunited her with her husband. We took the time to speak to the woman’s family about the Herbert Protocol, in case she should go missing again. Have you heard of it? It’s a scheme we support that can help find people with dementia if they go missing. It encourages family and friends to keep a document that will help officers in the event a loved one goes missing by collating key pieces of information, such as a physical description, familiar places, health details and an up-to-date photo. For more information or to download a Herbert Protocol form to fill out for us, visit our dedicated web page by clicking this link. Kind regards,
