Neighbourhood Policing Operation - Unsafe Use of E‑Scooters, E‑Bikes and Delivery Mopeds |
||
|
Following concerns raised at a recent Neighbourhood Policing Forum, officers responded to reports of electric scooters, e‑bikes and mopeds being used unsafely, including riding on pavements and failing to follow the Highway Code. Residents also noted that many of these vehicles appeared linked to food delivery services. Neighbourhood Policing Teams from Plaistow West, Canning Town East and Plaistow South identified hotspots around Barking Road, Balaam Street and Plaistow Road, particularly near Plaistow Station. A targeted operation was launched to check the legality of vehicles, insurance status and rider behaviour. Several mopeds were seized for lacking business insurance, and a number of e‑bikes fitted with illegal throttle acceleration systems were also removed from use. Local food vendors were given advice about their responsibilities when employing or contracting delivery riders. Throughout the operation, several residents and ward panel members stopped by to speak with officers and observe the enforcement activity, including the seizure of offending vehicles.
