Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a serious criminal offence in the UK, carrying a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison. West Midlands Police (WMP) treats FGM as child abuse and a strategic priority under their Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) action plan. Immediate Reporting & Help Emergency: Call 999 if you or someone you know is in immediate danger of FGM or being taken abroad for the procedure. Non-Emergency: Call 101 to report concerns or get advice from the police. Anonymous Reporting: Contact Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 to share information without giving your name. Support Services in the West Midlands Specific local resources are available for those at risk or survivors: Birmingham Heartlands Hospital : Operates an African Women's Clinic (0121 424 3909) and a specialist FGM clinic every day. Birmingham Against FGM (BAFGM): A central resource for events and services across Birmingham. Birmingham and Solihull Women's Aid : Supports women and children affected by various forms of abuse, including FGM (0121 685 8687). : Provides specialized support for FGM and honour-based violence in Coventry (02476 444077). Summerfield Primary Care Centre : Offers a clinic for non-pregnant women in Winson Green. National Helplines NSPCC FGM Helpline: Call 0800 028 3550 (24/7) or email fgmhelp@nspcc.org.uk for anonymous advice and support. FORWARD: Provides specialized healthcare and counselling for girls and women affected by FGM (020 8960 4000). Foreign & Commonwealth Office: Call 020 7008 1500 if a British national is at risk of being taken abroad for FGM. Professional Duty Regulated professionals (teachers, health workers, and social workers) in England and Wales have a mandatory legal duty to report any known cases of FGM in girls under 18 directly to the police via 101.
