I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft - (shoplifting, personal, other), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A man has been jailed and handed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order after he stole items from shops in Fleet.
Takunda Kamanga, 28, of Wickham Place, Church Crookham, stole meat and electric toothbrushes worth a total of £160 from Superdrug and Co-op in November and December.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from a shop and was jailed for 28 weeks after a suspended sentence order was activated at Basingstoke Magistrates Court yesterday (27 January).
Kamanga was also handed a two-year CBO which has banned him from entering any Sainsbury’s, Superdrug, Co-op or Morrisons store in the UK.
He must not enter any retail premises from which he has been banned and must not conceal his face to disguise his appearance in shops in Hampshire and Surrey.
Kamanga must place all items in baskets or trolleys and present means to pay upon request. If asked to do so, he must leave a store without the use of aggressive or abusive language.
Hart Police Sergeant, Geoff Hill, said: “We know that Takunda Kamanga’s behaviour has had a huge impact on shops, staff and the wider community in Fleet.
“He is a prolific offender in the area, and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to gather enough evidence to ensure he spends time in prison for what he has done.
“I hope this reassures the community that our officers will look at all of the options that are available to us, including the use of Criminal Behaviour Orders, in our relentless pursuit of criminals.”
