Weekly Update from your local Bablake NPT
Dear Members
Here’s your weekly update from myself and the rest of the team.
What’s Been Happening
Vehicle crime A contractor parked his works van on HIGH STREET whilst completing a job nearby and upon returning, noticed that someone has made a hole in the rear back door in an attempt to gain entry. Thankfully a deadlock was fitted. If you haven't already, please think about your van's security, mark tools and other valuables contained within and add them to a property database such as Immobilise. A similar incident has also been reported on neighbouring SHERBOURNE where a Makita multi tool, batteries, Dewalt radio and Makita and Dewalt grinders were stolen.
On PACKINGTON AVENUE a Citroen C1 has had its number plates stolen.
Officers have been carrying out enquiries in relation to these incidents but if you have any information relating to either, please let us know.
Good news In SOLIHULL, a concerned resident reported a suspicious van parked up, Chelmsley Wood officers checked it out which revealed that it had been stolen twelve hours before from TAMWORTH ROAD. The vehicle was seized and will be reunited with its owner after a forensic examination. We always appreciate residents reporting suspicious vehicles, thank you.
Arrests On Thursday officers saw a VW Golf which had previously made off and linked to drugs. The vehicle was followed until it stopped outside a property. The driver and vehicle were searched where a large amount of cash was found. The driver had no receipt or reason to have the money and was arrested accordingly. This was followed by a search at the driver’s address.
This set, we have continued supporting Coventry City Council with warrants at suspected illegal HMO’S. At one address, an arrest was made for possession with intent to supply after a large quantity of cannabis was found stashed in jars, containers and bags.
In the News West Midlands Police have been using drones since the early 2000's. Whilst they are an invaluable tool they do have limitations as the pilot needs to be at the location and the drone within their line of sight. An exciting new project is happening right now in Coventry using drones that are unbelievably operated from Birmingham, 21 miles away. These drones are securely housed and charged on roofs of buildings in the city centre and being used as “first responders”. The drones assess situations, gather evidence, track suspects, and relay other important information which in turn means better response times, right resources being dispatched and improving officer safety. Another bonus, there cheaper than the police helicopter!
Street Watch Officers have carried out patrols with Keresley End Street Watch volunteers. There's so much more to this role than just patrolling. Volunteers report issues in their neighbourhood to the right authority. This can be anything from a broken streetlight, graffiti or fly tipping. These issues may seem small on their own, but they have a big impact on safety, crime and the overall feel of a neighbourhood.
Crime Figures Over the past nine days, I am pleased to say, no burglaries have been reported on BABLAKE. We have received two reports of vehicle crime on HIGH STREET and PACKINGTON AVENUE mentioned above.
Until next week Stay safe everyone.
