Please be aware the ‘Thames Water’ type scam has returned to Palmers Green. On 2nd February at approximately 12:30pm two males described as Greek looking by the elderly victim gained access to check the water pressure in her kitchen. One attempted to distract her while the other went upstairs and searched. She managed to scare them off by saying her friends were coming to her house and they left without taking anything. On New River Crescent on 16th February between 8:30am and 8:30pm two panes of glass were smashed in a rear ground floor door window and bathroom window. No entry was gained as it appears the burglar may have been disturbed by the neighbour. On Riverway on 13th February between 2:54am and 4:30am three suspects have gained access to the back garden over the fence and forced the locks on the French doors to gain entry to a house. The ground floor was searched and two car keys, a laptop and the ring doorbell were taken as they left via the front door. The doorbell was later recovered nearby damaged. No cars were taken.
Burglars will use a variety of ways to avoid being noticed. They don’t want to be seen or heard by a neighbour or passer-by because they will feel exposed and identifiable. Distraction burglars will pretend to be someone they are not, so it’s important you are aware of the common methods they will use to get you to let them into your property. Here’s some useful advice, firstly on helping to keep burglars out by giving them no hiding place and, secondly, on how to prevent a distraction burglary. https://www.met.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/protect-home-crime/keep-burglars-out-property/
