Section 60 Authority - Mitcham Area |
||
|
Good Afternoon,
In response to an incident of serious violence last night in the Mitcham area, we wanted to inform you that a Section 60 authority has been put in place by Detective Superintendent Mawhinney between 16:00hrs on 20/02/26 and 06:00hrs on 21/02/26. Please see the below map for the exact location.
A Section 60 authority allows officers to carry out stop and searches on persons and vehicles within the designated area for a limited time to help keep the community safe. Under Section 60AA - which is automatically authorised with a Section 60 - individuals may also be required to remove face coverings or disguises if officers believe they are being used to conceal someone’s identity.
You will see more officers on patrol while the authority is in place. They are there to provide reassurance, speak with residents, and ensure everyone feels safe as they aim to prevent and deter crime.
Please be assured these powers are temporary, closely monitored, and only used when we believe they will help reduce the likelihood of incidents occurring.
If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to one of our officers or reply to us on this message.
