#SafetyAdvice | As the weather warms, adders, the UK's only venomous snake, are emerging from hibernation and ground‑nesting birds are settling in. We’re asking the public to stay on marked paths and keep dogs on leads to help protect both wildlife and yourselves.

To reduce the risk of disturbing wildlife or encountering snakes, please avoid walking through tall heather, wet pools, or marshy areas.

Other species such as grass snakes, slow worms and common lizards also depend on these sensitive habitats, so a little caution helps keep the Chase safe for everyone.

If a bite does occur, it’s important to stay calm and get professional help promptly.  

Here’s the general guidance:

- Move away from the snake to avoid further contact.  

- Keep the person or dog as still and calm as possible to help slow the spread of venom. 

- Carry your dog if possible. 

- Seek urgent medical or veterinary attention.  

- Do not try to treat the bite yourself.
